An Impatient High School Student Displays A Number Of Alcohol-Related Issues, Gets Expelled From School, And Has To See The School Psychologist
Stephen was a seventeen year old high school junior who was displaying quite a few alcohol-related problems at school. Consequently, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist, before he would be allowed to come back to school.
Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to clarify his school suspension to his Mother and Father. His Mother and Father were "fairly old-style" and told Stephen that getting kicked out of school was not a viable educational plan of action. They informed Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would likely be like a lead weight around his legs that could probably hamper his educational aspirations for the remainder of his life. In addition, Stephen's Mom and Dad were quite saddened that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his peers in the second.
It was plain to see that his Mother and Father were completely in agreement with Stephen's principal and informed Stephen that he had better make up his mind to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist. After his discussion with his parents, Stephen at last agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during his first period class.
When Stephen got to his scheduled appointment with Miss Pender, she instantly went over all of the alcohol-related problems Stephen had experienced and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related behavior made the school administrators uneasy.
Quite candidly, Stephen was not sure why the principal informed him that he had to see a school psychologist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional counselor about his drinking behavior? Due to the fact that virtually all of his peers drink the same amount that he does, primarily, drinking shouldn't be such a big thing. Stated more forcefully, if nearly everyone is drinking, why is this such a major issue?
In short, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to thwart his ability to conduct himself like an accountable young man. As put into words by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your classmates drink hard liquor, wine, beer, or wine coolers does not mean that it's the correct behavior for you."
Fortunately, Miss Pender was well prepared for her scheduled time with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had highlighted that summarized different drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen a lot of information that applied especially to teens.
After Miss Pender conveyed the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was plain to see that what Miss Pender made known to Stephen was a real shock to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to go over the short term and the long term consequences of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to confirm what she was saying with alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that related to everybody in general, and chiefly to teenagers.
Certainly, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately comprehended why he should not be engaging in hazardous and excessive drinking with or without his peers any longer. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she reviewed and then accepted her reinstatement into school.
